Florence stands at a fascinating, at the centre of a large shaped like an amphitheatre, surrounded by three sides by hills of clayey Careggi, Fiesole Settignano, Arcetri, Poggio Imperiale and Bellosguardo. In the flat area where we find the old town is crossed dall'Arno and watercourses smaller as the Mugnone, Terzolle and the river Greve.
