Massa Carrara

Massa-Carrara is the northernmost province of Tuscany which borders west with the Ligurian Sea and Liguria, north with the Emilia-Romagna, in the east with the Province of Lucca. The Province of Massa Carrara was born in 1859 by posting of Lunigiana and Garfagnana by the Duchy of Modena. In 1923 it distaccarono instead by the municipalities of the province: Bolano, the Goblet Cornoviglio, Castelnuovo Magra, Ortonovo, Rocchetta Vara, Santo Stefano di Magra and Sarzana, which entered into the new province of La Spezia. The province itself is divided into 2 main areas that are distinguished mainly by a geographical point of view because the first is the coastal province and is the Riviera or the municipalities of Massa, Carrara and Montignoso. But that is the second part of the continental territory is the Lunigiana and this area borders the Liguria and Tuscany.
